This gentleman is the legal representative, he claims, for the BNP. He has written to me threatening me with all sorts of legal action.
"Please note that this e mail also constitutes a formal Pre-Action Protocol Notice in relation to your allegation of my making 'threats' against you. This allegation will constitute an actionable defamatory statement if passed onto any third parties. If such a statement regarding any allegations of 'threats' as against myself is published by yourself and that allegation is placed on any website / blog / newspaper column etc or passed onto any other parties then you will be taken to court for defamation."
I am pretty sure that it isn't defamation to point out that the BNP are issuing a writ against me. Or that they have promised to turn up at my home address with a
"security team"
I will leave it up to readers to imagine what a BNP "security team" look like!
I am not sure it is possible to defame anybody who voluntary joins a fascist organisation, but I think truth is always a strong defence.
Like many fundamental insecure people (read The Mass Psychology of Fascism by Wilhelm Reich for a good examination of this), Mr Barnes seeks to impress me with his qualifications
"Honours Degree in Law such as I have."
Having a honours degree in Law doesn't make a layer. I have a first class honours degree myself, so I know just how easy they are to get these days!
In the meantime I await legal advice from the NUJ about whether to remove the link to the membership list as I really cannot see how it is in breech of any laws. But I will abide by any legal judgement and not respond to threats from the BNP or any other idiot who rings, e mails and all the other silly stuff I am presently having to put up with.
